Paedar's Bar

The craic at last!
Between bar and pint the fiddler,
Immaculately bored,
Minimally bows the jig;
Flirting in high descants
The penny whistle,
Thigh stamping as ballast,
A bounce more up than down;
The squeeze box easy breathing
Harmonies as for a marathon;
And the singer, face reddening,
Churning Irish indecipherable passion
To fill the foot tapping,
Crowd thickening bar.

It gathers and it gathers
In irrepressible pulse sweeping
Ladies thick with makeup and heavy
With pearls back to their youth:
The craic their orgasm.
