We walk along the Crantock sands
Her feet less sure, her pace reduced;
Discussing puppies by the coffee truck
To escape the cloud that overhangs us
In the sunshine.
Frustrated by Covid rules
From weaving nests of love
She poses, smiles triumphant smiles,
For the record
And shows me the way of the journey she cannot share
Up rocks, through headland bracken
Beyond the shore.
And then
She turns and waves, her arms aloft,
A distant figure on the sands
Before the tide comes in.
