Christmas Father
There is a view
That we don’t want you
For Christmas.
To avoid a scene.
No one wants to be torn between
Their parents
And it might feel awkward.
Instead of pure laughter the talk would get
Rather stilted.
We don’t want you to be lonely,
So it would help if you could only find
Somewhere else.
Please don’t take it personally
But it is your fault the family is not
What it was.
Don’t worry about Santa
I’ll sort the carrot, the sherry, the banter and
The stockings.
And in the morning
It’s my bed they’ll visit
With kisses and cuddles and
Festive excitement.
I imagine you’ll miss it.
